Invitation to information meeting and webinar: widening of the A2 - long-term work from 18 August 2025
Published on 4 July 2025In the coming years, Rijkswaterstaat will be working on widening the A2 between the Het Vonderen and Kerensheide junctions (between Echt-Susteren and Sittard-Geleen). This is the section of the A2 between the towns of Echt-Susteren and Sittard-Geleen. The large-scale work will start on 18 August 2025 and will last for several years. This could cause significant traffic disruption in the Central and South Limburg region. This will affect your employees who drive on the A2 to and from their work location.
In order to inform organizations in a timely manner and prepare them for this situation, Rijkswaterstaat, Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar and Midden Limburg Bereikbaar are organizing information meetings - physically and online.
What does this project mean for your organization?
- Until the end of the work, a maximum speed of 90 km/h will apply. Traffic will still be possible on 2×3 lanes, but the flow will decrease. Especially during the morning and evening rush hour.
- There are several weekend closures planned, at those times the A2 will be completely closed. You will then have to deal with major traffic disruptions and diversions. The first weekend closure is planned for November this fall (planning subject to change). The exact dates of these closures will be announced in due time.
- The widening of the A2 will also require closures on roads around the A2, which may cause diversions and additional travel time.
- The reduced accessibility of the A2 has consequences for the commuting of your employees and/or the logistical flows that use this road.
