ON in the dark in the Brainport region

Social post - voorverlichting

The days are getting shorter again. It gets dark faster. Time to pay extra attention to good bicycle lighting! That's why the national "ON in the dark" campaign is launched every fall. Cycling without lights in the dark is extremely dangerous. You're poorly visible to other road users and have less of an idea of what's happening around you. Many people know that good lighting is important, but they don't always have it properly set up.

The rules in a row

  • In the dark or in poor visibility you must have your front and rear lights on (fixed or loose).

  • The front light is white or yellow, the rear light is red.

  • Lights must not flash and must shine straight ahead or straight back.

  • Loose lights are permitted, as long as they are clearly visible (i.e. not behind luggage) and attached to clothing or a bag – on the chest or back, not on the head, arms or legs.

  • Your bicycle must have reflectors:

    • a red reflector at the rear,

    • white or yellow reflectors in the wheels (rims or tires),

    • and four amber reflectors on the pedals.

🚲 No lights on your bike? Then you risk a €75 fine.
