Cycling is part of our daily lives

Published on November 27, 2025

The winner of the Brainport Bike Week Challenge has been announced! Martine Boot from Mierlo won a fantastic e-bike. She picked it up at Den Drietip bike shop. "I always participate in the Da's zo gefietst (That's how I cycled) challenges. But I didn't expect to win such a beautiful bike!"

Track your cycling kilometers, earn points, and compete for great prizes through challenges. You can do it all in the "Da's zo gefietst" (That's how you cycle) app. There was also a challenge during the first Brainport Bike Week. The grand prize? A beautiful e-bike. And that's what nurse Martine is currently riding. Besides her work at Catharina Hospital, she cycles as often as possible. "I saw the challenge in the app and immediately thought: great, I'll just click accept. If you're already cycling, you might as well keep up. And it's an extra incentive to get on the bike."

Cycling is a given

That was precisely the intention of Brainport Bike Week, which was entirely focused on increasing cycling enjoyment and smart mobility: encouraging more people to cycle. For Martine herself, that's been a given for years. "Rain or shine, I get on my bike. For commutes to work, for family visits, for errands, for family outings. It's part of my daily life, and I appreciate it: you get fresh air, you avoid traffic jams, and you feel fitter. I want everyone to experience that feeling. The more people cycle, the better. So I was immediately enthusiastic about the app and the challenges it contains."

Enthusiasm is contagious

Martine's husband has also become a fanatic. "He already cycles to work, but I thought you could only participate in the app through your work. That's not the case: everyone can join. Now we're happily using the app together and participating in the Licht AAN challenge. That's fun too. Especially now with this new bike. An electric one, because it's so nice and fast. Commuting to work is often even faster than by car: in traffic jams, it saves five to ten minutes." Martine got her e-bike from her favorite bike shop: Den Drietip in Helmond. "It makes sense: my grandparents already went there, and so did my parents. They really know me, which is nice."

Discover new places

The prize came at a good time. "I've ridden my old bike over ten thousand kilometers in four years, so I was ready for it. A friend is getting my old bike, and someone else is going to cycle more. I also see new opportunities for myself. We want to go on longer rides during the summer holidays. The kids can easily cycle along, so we'll explore new places in the Netherlands. Hopefully, more and more people will start cycling; that will make us all a little better!"
