Work on the A67: emergency lane is being made suitable for bus transport
Published on 5 June 2025Work on the A67: emergency lane is being made suitable for bus transport
Troute between exit 30 (Eersel) and exit 31 (Valkenswaard/Veldhoven) towards Eindhoven
From the end of June, buses will be able to use the emergency lane on part of the A67 during traffic jams. In this way, Rijkswaterstaat, the Province of Noord-Brabant and Brainport Bereikbaar are trying to stimulate the use of public transport. This contributes to the accessibility of the Brainport region, the reduction of car traffic and thus a reduction of CO2 emissions. We expect that after the summer, private bus traffic from companies will also be able to use the emergency lane.
Bus-on-emergency lane (BoV) is a measure that allows buses to use the emergency lane in the event of traffic jams. This makes the travel time more reliable. Scheduled public transport services and private transport for employees and/or students can apply for an exemption for this. Rijkswaterstaat, the Province of Noord-Brabant and Brainport Bereikbaar are working together on this..
Exemption
In order to be allowed to drive on the hard shoulder, carriers need an exemption. This application is supervised by Brainport Bereikbaar. Road manager Rijkswaterstaat assesses and ultimately grants the exemption.
Activities
Rijkswaterstaat will start work on Tuesday evening 10 June 2025 to make the route suitable for BoV. This concerns the section between exit 30 (Eersel) and exit 31 (Valkenswaard/Veldhoven) towards Eindhoven. To guarantee safety, the emergency lane must be adjusted. Three emergency bays with sufficient lighting will be constructed on the route for this purpose. In addition, special signs will be placed so that road users know that a bus is allowed to drive on the emergency lane in the event of a traffic jam. The work will be completed on 27 June 2025.
Obstruction
Rijkswaterstaat is trying to limit the inconvenience for road users as much as possible. During the work, the emergency lane will be closed off in three places to safely create the new emergency bays.
Other routes
Not only on the A67 a section will be made suitable for BoV. In mid-2026 this will also be introduced on parts of the A50 and A2:
A50:
- Heading south between exit 15 (Nistelrode) and bus exit Uden.
- Heading south between exit 13 (Volkel) and exit 12 (Veghel-Noord)
- In both directions between exit 10 (Eerde) and Ekkersrijt junction
A2:
- Heading south between Leenderheide junction and exit 34 (Valkenswaard),
- Heading north between exit 36 (Maarheeze) and Groote Bleek rest area.
